St. Patrick's Day is the day set aside to honor St. Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland, and all things Irish. I don't know a great deal about St. Patrick, or Ireland for that matter, but I do know that on his day I am supposed to wear green. And, if I don't, I get pinched. What's up with that?
Is there some other Saint out there that, if I don't wear their color, I will get slapped, or scratched, or kneed in an area that I don't want to be kneed? I can see setting aside a day to honor a Saint. I can even see wearing some color to show that you are honoring that Saint. But, to apply bodily harm if you don't adhere to wearing the color of that Saint, I think goes too far.
However, just to be safe, I am writing my blog in green today. So, please, if you see me, and I don't happen to be wearing green, know that my blog is wearing green for me and please refrain from pinching me! And, if you agree not to pinch me, I will make sure that, when I celebrate my favorite Saint's day and you aren't wearing his color, I won't come over and poke you in the eye.

Even though St Pat. was catholic and I am protestant, I admire his efforts in converting pagans and becoming so renowned as a Christian as to have a special holiday, color, and symbols associated with him. The shamrock--often a symbol of the Trinity can be worn on St Pat's without being "politically" incorrect. So, I'm wearing my shamrock pin with my nails painted green and using the day to celebrate Christian faith and fortitude--even though it has been secularized
Someone told me that St. Patrick's color was actually blue, but because he was from Ireland and that country is associated with the color green, it got turned into a green holiday. What a joke!
Scott, this blog was great! I haven't had a chance to read many blogs this week so I'm catching up. Very clever.
